New bike for everyday hill climb to work.

Hello. I would ask You for help in choosing new bike. Now I have got Muddyfox mountain bike, I'm riding on him for 6 months but it's my brother bike. I'm moving away and bike stays with him so I need new one.
I'm looking for something about 250f and I think it should be road bike with more than 8 speeds like in my present bike.
I have 190cm. Tall and slim.

£250 leaves you with limited options.

If you only have £250 (or worse 250f - swiss francs = £173) to spare then you should probably consider buying a used bike.

Do you want a "road " bike with drops or a "flat " barred bike ?, and how far is your ride ?

Well.. I've got about 2 miles hill to climb (about 200m in height).It don't have to be a road bike. But in the future I would like to do some few-miles trips. But his main task is commuting to my workplace.

Or look at ebay for a second hand btwin triban 3 in red, the predecessor to the White one albeit with a carbon fork. Reckon a 60cm frame would suit

What would You say about them and which one would be better?
The problem is that, that I have never ride on road bike. I'm going at weekend to local bike store and probably to halfords. To see if road bikes are good for me.
