Right. I've decided, finally.
After a lot of looking and deliberating, I've concluded that to buy an off the shelf bike that would be an upgrade to mine, I'd need to spend in excess of £1200. I'm in the business of saving money, and the Planet X Pro Carbon seems like a done deal in my eyes. I imagine it's not as good as some top end carbon bikes, but to be honest, it looks good and it's relatively inexpensive.
I've had a look on their website and started adding bits to my basket. My plan is to get it here by Tuesday, with all the bits I need, and build it Tuesday evening.
To that end, what the hell do I need?
I understand the steerer tube will need cutting, so I've added a guide to the basket and will grab a 32tpi blade for my hacksaw. I'm guessing that if I strip my current bike down and align both frames, I can guesstimate how much to cut off? I'll probably leave a cm or 2 just to be safe and tweak from there.
Second question, headset?
Can I remove my old one and re fit it? Is it more economical to buy a new one and fit it? Can I do this without any magical/expensive tools?
Thirdly, steerer bung? Can I remove my older one? Or is it better to fit a new one? Is there any carbon specific one I need?
I'm hoping everything else should dress straight over. Bottom bracket is the same size. The bars, stem, spacers, shifters, chain set, brakes and cabling should dress over also. However, I'm sure tuning will need doing.
Is there anything I'm forgetting? Would like to place the order today if possible. So quick replies will be well received.
Cheers all
