We've just had 36 bike lockers installed in our surface car park. These are Velo Box ones.

Signed up for one of the lockers and have just purchased a sheilded stainless steel padlock. There is no-where to lock the bike inside but the lock should be secure. Will possibly save me a good 5-10 minutes each day though. Our cycle shelter in the multi-story isn't overly secure as the doors are often faulty.

Anyone experience of bike lockers in a 'crime hotspot'. Will it be secure enough.

The security guards caught a thief today trying to take a student's bike. The student had used a cheap cable lock, so security put a d-lock on it. The student came into reception and was quite angry about it. No thanks to the staff that saved his bike from going.

We've got them at the university; they seem to be OK.

It's the outside bikes which are vulnerable which is why I've a cheap bike for going to the campus I don't have secure storage at.

There has been an email round that folk will get a rollocking if they bring bikes in the building - I've seen 3 or 4 today, two full size and two brommies....

It's just that this will save me some significant time in locking and loading up the bike. I'll only need to remove the lights that need a charge and walk into the office.

When I had a bike locker at work I came one evening and found bolt cropper impressions on the padlock shackle. Not sure if their bolt cropper wasn't man enough, or if they got disturbed mid-crop. My recommendation is to use the thickest shackle that will fit on the bike locker. It was ridiculously expensive, but nobody tried again after I fitted an Oxford Nemesis.

The lockers will take d locks to lock them also. In the end I went for a Cisa enclosed padlock. The type that are fitted to shipping containers. Very secure
