New bike sizing

In the process of getting a road bike and unsure on the frame size. My height is 5 foot 7 and inside leg is 29 1/2". The bike im after has either medium (53cm) or large (55cm). From what I can work out I should be medium but Halfords says a large would be ok. Is this right or are they just after the sale?

Is that a 55cm top tube? I am 5'10, 33" inside leg and ride two 54.5cm top tubed bikes - 53cm sounds more appropriate. What bike is it?

They should get both in for you to try, otherwise I'd be inclined to take my custom elsewhere!

Go to a decent LBS, of which there are many in our mutual neck of the woods. I'm about as tall as Vickster, and on 55-56 cm bikes depending on bike geometry. I can't imagine someone three inches smaller finding the same size frame as me in any way comfortable.

I would have gone to a LBS Stuaff but as its cycle to work I have to go through Halfords.

Vickster im not sure all it says on the website is exact frame size http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_777713_langId_-1_categoryId_165710#tab2 . I would have tried both but they only had large in stock which is why im inclined to believe they would say large is the one for me to get the sale.

Judging by that, I'd guess medium for you (I'd strongly recommend getting sizing info from a decent LBS though, remember you could buy the bike from Halfords and get it built up elsewhere...which might be a good idea!). Try another Halfords branch if they aren't helpful.
