I'm gutted for you! But you bought the car knowing you would have to pay for it.
I like your honesty, but sometimes it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.

I had my insurance payment taken 2 months after I'd bought it.

I kept the money in to cover it as I knew they'd take it sooner or later.

Contacting them about it they're more likely to do as they have and just start the payments from the point of your call

If they just work it out they could demand the unpaid amount in full.

@surfdude, given that you didn't "have" the car, how did you lose it.
And if you were unlucky enough to have it stolen, how would you have proved ownership. Those that sold it you having no record of the sale, to begin with?

At EE we have this sort of thing a lot of the time. However it doesnt happen now, its mostly people who took phones out around 2011/12 who moved from OUK or Tmoblie but the payments don't start as we don't find the details as they don't exist. They are ghost accounts. So some lucky b*stards get unlimited everything for nothing.
We cant find or know who they are until they call up with issues or ask about their bills. Even then we cant find them as they have are in the HLR with the account details missing but that's not enough to build and account so its really a glitch. With no account to remove we cant get them or as far as I know off the HLR. Its only when the sim breaks it ends. There is prob a way but I don't know it.

Home Location Register. It is effectively a list which all networks work off and have their own which is how the network knows what should and shouldn't be on the network. It lists everything, all your details what your privileges are etc.
When viewing the HLR of these Ghost accounts, nothing shows so are the respective systems don't bring anything up. However the Number and sim will be on there with the downside being we can not activity change the HLR. This is due to some idiot not registering the account correctly.
However only a few hundred or so people are like this.

Reminds me of my sister, she moved house and no mortgage payments were going out, she called them repeatedly for about 3 months, 6 months went buy and still nothing, she sought legal advice and they told her to write to them and keep a log of all calls and show willing to attempt to make payments, after a year it was finally sorted, they waived the 12 months payments!
