Hi all,

Just getting into cycling to work (11 miles EW down the Hagley road) and have done it a few times on my heavy old MTB.

I am looking at getting a new bike through my works cycle2work scheme.

I am looking at the Trek Valencia. I would like some opinions/reviews/horror stories to see if it is a wise move or if there is anything else on the market?

Would its Al frame be long term strong enough for my 18st+ body? (as my old GT frame has cracked twice on me!)

Cheers!

Never seen one before but I have to say I quite like the look of that
Wouldn't worry about the weight vs Alu... I have heard of fatter riders who's alu framed bikes have served 'em well...

This is very similar to my 2007 Trek SU200 which has served me well with no hint of cracking or otherwise. The only thing I would suggest is to replace any mild-steel bolts with stainless to avoid galvanic corrosion (bolts are usually zinc plated but you still get a problem with mild-steel and alloy). I've ridden mine from 20st to 17.5 (current weight) with no problems.
