There's a lovely long downhill stretch on my commute, where I can pick up some serious speed (I reckon 25mph, but I've never checked it)...council in their wisdom have widened the pavement/narrowed the road to include a shared ped/cycle path.

I'm bracing myself for loads of cars beeping me to get on the path once it's all finished.

OMG that one really is hilarious. Inner ring road works near me are near completion but I found out recently they're putting a ultra narrow tight bend for traffic calming on what was a straight junction before. I'm now going to get really pushy motorists ramming me off my bike on a particular route :?:.

What is the real purpose of a path like that?
Is it to show the cyclist they dont have the right of way?

They will inevitably be meandering along both sides of the pavement, usually with their backs to you making you practically stop and yell at them as they are too busy nattering to hear your polite calls of "excuse me", and will then proceed to give you a dirty look when they eventually move aside to let you pass. Fair game I'd say

Round here they are better known as "car parks"

I had one near "Port Solent" where Hendy Ford / Kia et al use the path for parking...

"Why aren't you on the cycle path"

"You can't see that massive Vehicle Transporter parked on it?"

"Ah - fair point"

At least she had the grace to concede.

Yup, let the oppressed kick downwards: bullying motorists harangue us for not using sub-standard cycle paths, so let's harangue pedestrians for straying out of their bit the substandard width pavement.:?::biggrin:!:angry:

Hmmm yes sorry im not always as tolerant as I should be.Normally it's cos im knackered either going to or from work.

BTW Im on the way to work now.

One thing that strikes me is why don't I have problems when im a pedestrian with cyclists/motorcyclists and other road users alike?

Perhaps I look before I cross and never have a mobile phone glued to my ear.I dont make a bolt for the other side of the road or cross when the little red man is showing at all costs.

I think the word is concentrate.

Just a point like.
