New Disc-ready forks for Touring Bike

OK, about to head out into the scary world of buying a new set of forks for touring bike (Ridgeback Journey) so that I can have all-weather disc-braking performance. Wheels are disc ready, rear will remain rim-braked for a while.
So, any advice? What to I need to know? Any specific advice?
