Nice, provided the Edge 810 is the device that was rumoured to be the Edge 900, I will be buying one.

Same here, and I will have a nice Garmin 800 for sale which I'm sure will look far nicer on your bike than the 810 for a reasonable sum of money if your interested  ... lol

..make the most of any opportunity

I may well be interested in that tbh, basically I want mapping because when I occasionally lead a club run it would be nice to not go the wrong way due to only having a breadcrumb trail, lol. I didn't want to pay full price on an 800 if it was at the end of it's lifecycle.

Looks like the new units have more power meter provisions based on DCRainmakers article, will have to give that a good read later.

I have wanted one for a while, but the rumours of an Edge 900 held me off buying one for 2 reasons:

1) The inevitable bargains that can be had on the old unit when the new unit comes out
2) Potential features that might make me want the new unit and end up regretting the older one when having to sell it at a big loss.

I am currently using an Edge 500 and have been for near 3 years, it has been faultless but I am beginning to want the mapping features!

IMO, not worth upgrading, but if you are buying one or the other given the difference is ~$50 USD then it may be worth a punt. I prefer the aesthetic of the 800 tbh though. The new 810 looks like they took a leaf out of the SRAM book but failed!
