Paid this a visit today and was surprised at the amount of bicycle related exhibits! Unfortunately a lot of them are consigned to some sort of carousel hanging off the roof.......

What I dreamt of when I was 13 but was never allowed one.....

Well worth a visit for those nostalgic souls or those interested in the shipbuilding history of the Clyde.

My Granddad drove the last Glasgow Tram - he was something of a minor celeb in Glasgow, and my Uncle worked as a shipbuilder. It looks ace, I'd love to visit.

The building is on the north bank of the River Clyde, on the site of one of the many disused shipyards. In this case, it has some historical significance in that it sits on the site of the yard that built the paddle steamer "Waverley".

The shape of the building is supposed to represent waves. As to impact; well I suppose that is a matter for personal taste. IMHO it is certainly an improvement on the dereliction that has been around the general area for decades.....

They go to all that effort of getting a NBL kettle from South Africa*, BUT, THEY COULDN'T EVEN GET THE A GLASGOW BLUE TRAIN IN IT!!**


* - There is one at Summerlee rusting away to nothing. Coatbridge or Capetown, what would have been more sensible and COST effective??

**Yes, they did look into getting the last one in original condition which is also rusting away at Summerlee for all of about 5 minutes, but, hey, we think it was just a token gesture as really they couldn't give a flying **** about it, and it isn't about space, they genuinely don't care.

Yes the old one was excellent and had a really old world atmosphere. Whilst the new museum looks to have an extremely modern atmosphere which seems to contrast or clash with the exhibits rather than complement them. A bit like a sealife centre with fish but no water!

When you say you prefer the old museum do you mean the really old one just off pollokshaws drive or the last one at the Kelvin hall, I can remember visiting the original one in the 70’s but don’t remember the inside.

That's the reaction I was expecting- Zaha Hadid has acquired an international reputation for 'radical designs' but they do nothing for me at all. IMO they often don't appear to relate to what the building is supposed to be designed to do. MDB's amazed that they can't get a train into the museum- that kind of fundamental briefing problem is what concerns me. There was [allegedly] a fire station in Spain which was designed where they couldn't get the fire engines through the doors.

A museum is there to display the objects to their best advantage, not compete for attention. Oh well, back to the drawing board!

Sorry I meant the Kelvin Hall. I liked to look around the exhibits,a good nosey around. With some of the exhibits hanging from the wall its like looking at paintings in an art gallery. Used to love looking round the ships and boat section, now there are ships in cabinets on the wall that you can not see the full model properly,same with the cars. It just does not have the atmosphere like the kelvin Hall.
