Just got a new posting. A colleague retired and left a vacancy at a village station out in a peaceful, low-crime rate sort of place. I have done the Neighbourhood Policing job before, but always at really high crime rate areas with challenging demographic/diversity mixes. I have spent the last 18 months away from all that but in a post I really didn't want.... so karma strikes again!
Anyway, rather than a suite of offices with their own ensuite shower room and kitchenette, I now find myself with a team of 12 and a sergeant at a good old fashioned village nick. (I had a scout round and found Ventris's greatcoat hanging in the cellar head. ). The shower is fantastic, and it has a proper old kitchen/canteen. My office overlooks the village centre, and the constable's room overlooks the churchyard. Bliss.
Best of all though is the ride to work. It's a long way away, but I have found I can park up at the rugby club and ride 6 miles in. My previous commute was all downhill on the way in, which made the ride home a chore. This one however is just over six miles, and a profile of a total climb of 750 feet, a net gain of 300 feet or so. The ride back was therefore much pleasanter.
I'll get some cam footage up tomorrow, but today's run in was virtually traffic free with only a couple of idiots getting the spacing all wrong.
