New Peak oil animation... discussion of cycle travel scenario!!

I'm guilty of owning a car, as are most people on this forum.
For the one person that worries about things like peak oil, thousands don't worry about it.
Thats where the problem lies.
Man won't stop using motorised vehicles until the oil has nearly run out. wars are fought over the stuff!!
I can see Mad Max becoming a reality !!
I'd like to say i cycle to help the environment. But i don't, i purely do it to keep fit.
So i guess i'm just as bad.

Actually, thinking about it.... Petrol/diesel is extracted from Crude Oil by Fractional Distillation. Surely you will get the same amount of other products (oil, plastic, etc) per barrel of oil, whether you burn the extracted petrol in cars or not?

you also need to factor in the useage in extraction, production and distribution

No! Not true. It doesn't matter what your motivation is - every journey cycled rather than driven helps our environment (and you).
