Im very close to pulling the trigger on a new road bike but cant decide on the chain set.
Should I go with a compact double or a regular 39/52?
Im not exactly the fittest person in the world, 50-60 mile a day is about enough for me on my Galaxy but obviously That's a triple and at least twice the weight of a new road bike.
What are the pro's and con's of each?
At the moment Im leaning more towards a regular 39/52 with a 12/28 cassette or would the compact be a better choice?

IMO.... 50/34 compact .... You could always change the rings to a 52/39 at a later date !

I went with the compromise of 52/36 combined with an 11-32 cassette. Top gear is great and bottom gear gets you up the hills.

I had a good think and went for the compact with a 12/28 cassette.
As Tissot said, I can always change the rings at a later date. There's no point making things hard for myself right from the start.
Now all I have to do is sit back and wait for the nice people at Ribble to put the thing together.

I bought a Canyon with 53/39 as it was in stock, ended up changing it to 50/34 due to all the climbing round here. The double was brilliant with 50mm carbon aero wheels on the flat but wore me out on the hills....

You may want to consider a triple in that case....?
