New Road Bike recommendations

I am thinking about a new roadbike and am looking up to about 2 grand.

Just a bit of background - I am 47 and currently have two road bikes.

1. A Canyon Road Master Pro (triple) - I am an expat living in Germany and its a German make
2. A Trek 1.7

I am not an expert on bikes and although the Canyon is the more expensive bike and lighter than the trek, it is much less comfortable which I guess has something to do with the geometry.

Anyway, I love the Trek, its really nice to ride and comfortable over distance and I am looking for something similar but just a bit more modern.

I have been looking at the Trek Madone 3.5 but have no experience with Carbon framed bikes. i also had a look at a Cube Agree GTC Pro (I have a Cube mountainbike with which I am very happy).

Anyway, any thoughts on the Trek or bikes in the same price bracket? Anything I should look out for with Carbon framed bikes?

Have a look at Ribble cycles (near Preston but they export all over). You can pick the style and material of frame best suited then you can literally choose your own components including wheels/tyres/gears....right up to the saddle. Prices compare well with off the shelf bikes.
I got the Sportive in all carbon and it's great (if this b@%*+y weather will let me get on it again)

Have a look at Ribble cycles (near Preston but they export all over). You can pick the style and material of frame best suited then you can literally choose your own components including wheels/tyres/gears....right up to the saddle. Prices compare well with off the shelf bikes.

If I was spending £2k on a bike now I'd seriously look at the Canyon Ultimate AL 9.0 Ui2, BUT, then I read the bit about wanting more comfort so this won't be for you

Some say carbon fibre frames give a more compliant ride, I've had both and find them very similar TBH.

Your Trek looks to have more relaxed geometry than your Canyon, so that's why you find it more comfortable.

You could stick with Trek and go for something like THIS.

Specialized have their Roubaix range which are favoured by many, even Pros use them on certain rides due to their comfort, something like THIS could work.

Or you go for the Cannondale Synapse range. THIS is their £2k model but there are others in the range as well.

Ooo I wish I was buying a new bike. Get along to a few stores and test ride as many as you can to see what feels best.

One thing (and I am clearly out of touch here), I had not heard of electronic shifting before - is this realtively common?

Not yet but it's getting more and more. It first appeared from Shimano with their Di2, (Dura-Ace) set up, and they now also offer it as Ui2, (Ultegra).

Campagnolo also have an electronic groupset available now, but IMO I'd stick with Shimano whether electronic or mechanical. Or Sram for mechanical as well.

Definitely not complex.......my nick-name at home is Mr Bean and I found it easy (with a bit of help from Google and asking questions on CC).
I got a full carbon set-up with 105's all round for £1,300.00.

+1. The Izalco Ergoride is an entirely different matter though, and more likely to suit the OP. Cycling Plus gave it 5/5 in their review of sportive bikes in the latest issue.

I think the bikes are German but the lbs got in Ghost Bikes and they are well specced for the money. Coincidently they also got in Mekk bikes (Hungarian I think) and they look fab too; I particularly like that you can take the bike home for a decent test ride before you buy.
