Just seen one in the flesh.Looks terrific.Didnt know you could get a Secteur with discs. The frame is smooth welded,I thought it was all cf initially. Sora shifters compact with 11/30 cassette should get U up anything. The frame and fork has been redesigned to allow more clearance should take decent mudguards easilly. Its on 28c tyres as well.

not cheap at 1k for ally frame carbon fork Sora kit but it really does look the business to my eye. Very practical all year round bike plenty quick enough for sportives fast commuting etc.

I understand why new road bikes have disc brakes, but I can't adjust to the look of them (even though MTB riders would've had said the same years ago) It looks nice, but I'll always prefer rim brakes.

I have discs on my flat bar commuter. Work much better in wet and dont grind away your rims.I know what U mean though it would take a while to get used to the looks. Lot of Cycle cross bikes with discs now .

Looks a real nice bike. Shame the brakes are BB5's which are not the best or easily adjustable brakes. Would have been much better with BB7's.

My commuter bike is a road bike with disc brakes. And after 6000 miles of commuting I wouldn't go back to normal rim brakes.
In that time the disc pads are not even half worn. And that's commuting in all weathers and I'm tough on braking too.
Took me a year to eat through some rims on my previous bike.

As much as i hate to say it, I think spesh have dropped a bollok with this one.

Waaaay to expensive for the spec. This should really be about £800, and they should do a Tiagra one with bb7s for the grand. (and that would still be pushing it!) At those prices they would fly out, I might even have thought about trading in my secteur for one!

I bought a Crux a couple of years ago, it looked beautiful in the shop. In some ways a very good bike, but it was overpriced and came with very cheapo hubs and brakes, with an alarming shortage of grease where grease should be. I have since noted that, as a brand, they are generally more expensive and less well equipped than the likes of Giant, Cannondale, Focus etc. I would think twice about buying Specialized again.

Spesh actually copied Volagi bikes on the disc brake thing. There were two employees from Spesh who left the company to make their own company Volagi. Spesh took them to court (out of pure sh*ttyness) and got something like $1 or $5 out of the settlement.
Since then they've came out with the above type of disc brake equipped road bike. Which look overpriced as said, the mechanical BB5's are old tech, even on MTB's.

I went to a spesh store on saturday and had a look at this. It has sooo much potential - possibly a great one bike does the lot (as long as you dont want to go rougher than decent quality tow-paths)

Fittings for front and rear guards and a rack, will take proper guards too with its 28mm tyres.

Even the shifter felt decent. As a longer term bike to upgrade as things fail it would be very versitle...just cant get over the price.

But with sensible priced upgrades in the fullness of time it could be the buke it should be now, with 10 speed tiagra and bb7s.

I saw this Trek Crosser today. These bikes are finally coming of age, just. It has all you need to commute carrying panniers and you can go cyclo crossing as well if you like lots of mud. Pity about the colour, battleship grey and price for the spec which is a bit high for the low spec Sora - £950! But the frame looks good. I did ask whether Trek supply frame and fork only but was told no. Better to buy a complete bike then strip it and put your own wheels and compontents on it, but this works out far too ££££££. May as well have a handbuilt frame such as a Hewitt or Roberts Roughstuff but with discs and all the bosses to your own spec.

Lot of money for a poorly equipped, heavy as hell bike. I'd wait a year or so until the fad for disc brake equipped road bikes wears off and they start pricing them sensibly. A Sora bike with BB5's should be no more than £50 more than the equivalent with calliper brakes.
