Just changed the shifters on my work bike however, despite cabling up correctly, my gears aren't shifting. Any suggestions to why this could be and how to solve the problem?

It could be anything but step one is to backtrack and start again.
Release the cable and click the shifters up and down. If the shifters are working with 8 clicks up and 8 clicks down (for 9 speed) then click it into position for the 4th smallest sprocket and then attach the cable so that the rear mech is over that 4th sprocket.
