Just noticed some new street lamps on my way in. It looks like they are LED street lamps. The light is quite harsh and a bit blue-ish. I am not sure if they are quite as bright as the old sodium street lamps. Weird - the world is changing again.

Some of those in a street near me and when I'm driving I find them very distracting as I get close to each lamp. I think they may distract drivers. Possibly not good for other less visible road users.

I'm of a similar opinion about car's LED daylight running lights. I use my bike lights day and night, and feel they will just melt into the background of LEDs once they are more common making bikes, motorised and pedal, less visible.

We had those installed on the roads around us about a year ago. They are very bright and as far as I know have been universally welcomed. I haven't perceived any cycling related downsides to them.

Looking forward to the day an electric vehicle close passes me at speed, will probably have a heart attack.

Indeed, I find my eyes being drawn to the lights, which can only be bad news for the unlit.

Probably because it's unusual. They just need to fit these street lights everywhere, so drivers the UK over are accustomed.

The ones they have installed outside my house are A. overpowered compared to sodium lamps they replaced. B. not focused, the light is flooding into my room at night.

I'm not impressed.

The new LED ones they're installing hereabouts are dreadful -ridiculously bright and very poorly focussed with the light spilling sideways and upwards. There's been loads of complaints about them. If there was one outside my house I'd get an airgun pretty damn quick.

We have some near by - they went in over the winter. They seem to result in bright pools of light with slightly darker bits in between. I suspect there is less spillage in other directions. It's taken a while but I'm now getting used to them.
