I went for the Ridgeback World Voyage http://www.ridgeback.co.uk/bike/voyage#details.
Yes it is heavy, but I decided I needed to lose weight more urgently than the bike. The steel frame and relaxed geometry make it really comfy and the 3 ring chainset is a big help in the Dales. I was so happy with it, after 7 months I have bought another Ridgeback, the Advance 7. Now I have a choice of tourer with panniers for shopping, trip to the TDF etc, or just to use in the rain (mudguards), or the Advance for a slightly more determined work out.

I'm 5'11 with a 30 leg and ride the M/L with a 1cm shorter stem on the front. So you might get away with a Medium! Don't quote me on that though.
5'10, 34" inside leg, medium was too big for me. Even with shorter stem and narrower bars

The only way to know is to go try
