New (to me) Bike, good deal, am I mad

Mate at work has offered me an Orange P7 Single Speed, 2006 model, immac, hardly any use.

He has said £400.

I know they are expensive, how easy is it to stick some gears on, have shifters, cassette etc from my old Carrera, was going to leave the crank but have 8 gears on the rear if I dont get on with Single Speed, which he described as a Dirty Great BMX

Wont commute on it, I don't think as I shift so much but like the idea for weekends, I think he bought it having been on forums rather than getting massively fit or sick of gears.

Honestly? Forget it.

It maybe worth looking at for what it is, i.e. a single speed mtb, but it's really not worth buying to convert. Decide what it is that you do want and spend your hard earned on that.

Orange bikes are mint...... but a single speed MTB...what's the use other than a 'Trick' Bike..... - i.e if you like jumping off buildings etc......

Steer clear fella.......now, had it been a pukka MTB.... oh..yes.... !

Looks a good buy, but maybe worth haggling a bit on the price if you need to spend money on converting.
