New turbo and QR skewer

I've just got a new turbo trainer for my boardman cx. I've had to use the QR skewer that came with the turbo to attach it.

Can I use this skewer permanently or do I need to keep changing back to the original one that came with the boardman?

I used mine for ages before I got rid of the turbo due to lack of use

I can't see why not. The only thing that would concern me is that my turbo skewer has one end that is quite long and could potentially be a "catching things" hazard.
