Very handy on the unlit country lane so i could see what i was doing when i had a flat and had to do the 5 minute inner tube dance

Did not help at all when i got chain suck 5 minutes later though or it will be of no use gettign the oil stain out of my new leggings

I had to call my son over when we were MTB'ing - I had the magicshine, but the 'old' battery I was testing died. The cateye EL510 as backup was next to no use finding the spare in the rucksack. He came over with my two Hope 1's  Battery sorted in no time.

Anyone who thinks the Cat Eye 510-530's are any good, nope - only OK for lit roads to be seen wiith, not to see anything in the pitch black.

Ive got the 530, and have no issues with them. Granted, they arent as bright as the Hope etc, but for a tight budget, the Cat Eye 530 is a very good light for the £s. IMHO.
Im on unlit cycle track for 7 miles and then 1 mile of lit road and 3 miles of back street unlit roads. Ive had no issues.

You will understand how poor the cateye lights are once you have used better.
I occasionally cycle through clapham common on the way home, at this time of year it is pitch black and a bright light makes it possible to see where you are going, almost as if it was day.

Gaz it's the 530, and TBH they aren't cheap !

Yep, sorry, was the 530 and not the 510 as originally mentioned.

Trust me, my route is dark (partly through a wooded area) and the 530 does the job and gives a nice bright even 'flood' type beam. Agreed, there are better options out there, but for the price of the 530 @ £50 compared to some of the more expensive options such as Magicshine etc, it aint half bad!

Dropped mine three foot the other day and it is now dead. Only had the crock of shift for a week or two. Lost the ruddy receipt though. Not exactly chuffed with how robust it is, however the beam is just about sufficient for unlit roads. I now have a Hope Vision one and it is a far better light.

These types of light are woeful compared to better lights. I had Cateyes in the past, well several of them on the bars, convincing my self I could see and been seen. Then I bought a couple of Smart 35 lux which were a massive improvement but still not great. I still got knocked down despite having two on full. So it was now the nuclear option the Max D. It really is the difference between night and day. I believe Magicshine lights are good, although I have never actually bought one as there are a small but significant number of purchasers who have experienced techincal and reliability problems with them. So I would rather put the £60 that they cost into something that is not only really bright but which will also last. If there is a problem Exposure like Hope are easy to deal with, I hope ;).

So Exposure Max D for me  . It makes for a phenominally powerful torch!
