Hi all

Firstly I'm new to cycle chat so here's my hello everyone.

The main reason I've joined at this present moment is to get some advice on a single speed bike.

Now I've looked at poloandbike and 6ku track bikes around the £400 mark. I've also took an interest in the Dolan pre cursa track bikes for £450 or £490 with the freewheel cog.

Has anyone got any advice or personal experience on these bikes or recommend me a good budget single speed?

The main use will be commuting 7 miles to work and 7 Back with the odd visit to the Athletics track for some fitness riding and then the pop to the shop type of riding.

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil,
I'm in the process of getting my first single speed too and have been greatly helped by some replies to other threads on here. I am going down the self-build route so I've just bought a Gebesis "Flyer" frame and am getting it cleaned and power coated. All other components are being sourced and I hope to get it on the road in a week or so. The build is turning out to be great fun - learning how these things go together will certainly help me in the future! I am finding that I can also cherry pick the best components for my budget and build up something a bit unique.

Unfortunately, I can not help directly with the models of bike you are thinking of, but enjoy your ride whatever you get,

Hi mate

I've been considering a self build too. However I'm not patient enough and I'll just wanna ride.
I think I'm going to go for the Dolan bike, then in time as and when I need to I'll upgrade each part. (Kind of a self build lol)

The Genesis bikes are very nice, but if you are on a tighter budget the Edin CoOp are hard to beat for value for money.

Less than £255 for a 100% new bike!

Im a bit fussy on things like colour and 'looks'. Im not a great fan of the look of the genesis.

Ive now started looking at the aventon mataro celeste frames, I'm wondering wether i could fit all 6ku parts to this frame. Ive read that the aventon are the sister/older brother models to the 6ku.

I'm waiting on a response from fixed gear frenzy to find out the cost of this frame with all 6ku parts.

I can highly recommend the SS Genesis Day One Disc which I've just recently treated myself too. Great for road and if you see a nice trail, tow path etc you can ride them as well. A lot of bike for the money. £649 is what it cost me. I'm sure which ever bike you choose you'll enjoy the single speed simplicity. No thinking, just ride.^_^
