Hi people,

I have always enjoyed cycling but only on a mounting bike and leisurely, my weight has been a struggle all my adult life and went up to 20St 11lbs, I've lost a stone with healthy eating and have bought myself a road bike. I'm enjoying it so far going three times a week covering around 14 miles in an hour. I feel a little out of place on a road bike but unless I do it I'll never lose the weight, I have a pair of padded cycling shorts and wear normal shorts over the top but i can nowhere find any cycling shirts in my size 50/52 chest, also not sure if I would look that good in lycra either. I am a information holic! I got a Garmin 810 and have to record what I'm doing and log it. I'm noticing I'm definetly getting fitter just wish the scales would say so too!

Anyway, got that of my chest and hopefully get some encouragement from here, thanks for listening!

Hi Allan and welcome and don't worry you are not alone in the weight dept on here (was 22st 10 lbs) so keep up the healthy eating and rides on the bike then in the fullness of time it will happen for you.All I would add is take it easy and build up at a pace you are happy with, and it looks like you are off to a very good start

Hi Allan, don't give a stuff about what others say, do the Lycra if you want to, I do and I'm not bothered what people think as I ride past, I'm out in the fresh air getting fitter, but more importantly I'm enjoying myself, I know I'll never be a road whippet, but ill enjoy myself trying o get there...

If you want o do Lycra, as a well known brand says, just do it!

Wear what you like and feel comfy in. I find it difficult to fit into jerseys with a 48" chest so can imagine how tough you find it. Welcome!

There are some amazing stories with spectacular weight loss on this site, as for Lycra........well I wear normal shorts over my cycling shorts, don't want the laydeez crashing as they stare at my lovely bottom.....ahem.:stop: :welcome:

I also found that the very bright running T-shirts from Lidl are great, as they are 3.99, can be seen from space and you don't feel any sweat......well not till you get home. :shy:

Wotcha Allan.

and welcome to Cyclechat.

its a struggle to find sports gear that caters for a larger size. I'm a large built chap my self (as the pic below shows)

and have a particularly large chest. Cycle shirts are therefore a nightmare. Perhaps look for a shirt or Jersy that is NOT "form Fitting" to stand a good chance. Also why not check out the Encove website, their "Tethys" range is in a relaxed style that are so cheap that you'll be happy putting them in the back of the wardrobe until you fit them.

avoid the Phobos though its form fitting and as such about 3 sizes smaller than you think.

Good luck
