I am new to the cycling world. Looking to buy a decent starter bike and need help from someone who knows something. I am 39yrs old, 6'00" 240lbs. Got my eye on a 2008 trek 1.7. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Where are you planning to ride? On/off road (trek is a roadbike so assume the former)? Commuting, leisure, plan to get competitive? Budget?

Just road riding for now, would like to get competitive eventually. Kinda big to be competitive right now

Trek bikes are decent. Make sure its history is clean and it fits you properly

Welcome to the forum. Vickster is right, Trek bikes are quite decent, I've had a few, from different eras, and some in-laws have a 1.7 and think highly of it.

Will it carry my weight? And what's it worth? Don't want to be ripped off just because I'm new

Do you have a link to the spec? You can get a brand new road bike for £300 from decathlon but it'll depend on spec. Weight should be no issue, don't hop on and off kerbs. Worst would be need for new wheels with more spokes. I would think £200-300 for 5 yr old bike depending on spec and condition
