NHS in Efficiency Shocker.... Twice!!!

My opticians always phones a day or two in advance to remind us about our appointments - which seems to work well. I wonder if the NHS could text or email patients reminders. I know there would be a cost involved but in comparison to the cost of multiple missed appointments.

We have looked into this, and there are issues as many patients see these as "unsolicited" calls, spam mail and complain.

The other issue is (I admit) our own fault.

We have a criteria where appointments must be within ten working days of the form being written. This often means that to meet this a patient will get only 48 or 72 hours notice if the post is slow.

In holiday periods this means higher DNA rates, but if we do not meet these targets that we are penalised.

Good luck with your back, but hopefully if you need an operation to fix it you won't have to wait as long as I did...... I didn't wait long for the MRI but after the scan I had roughly 6 months to wait for the operation, and by that time I was barely able to walk. in saying that, I'm about to go in for another wee operation (a minor thing) and the time between my first hospital appointment and the date for my op is less than 2 months.

Thanks for the well wishes, to be honest its all happening a bit quick, I was expecting them to tell me yesterday they would put me on the list and I can expect to wait a few months at least... I was expecting something for the autumn at earliest...

I dont even know what the recovery time is, how long the Op will take and how long L will be in hospital or off work!

Best of luck though Wigsie! You must be pretty tough anyway to have put up with one so bad as to get such a quick op.

In reality though, a year off the bike has seen me become about as hard as a bowl of blancmange!

My experience of the NHS in recent years has been similar.

Back to waiting lists soon though, when Cameron's cuts take effect, so make the most of it!
