First friendly chat with a dog walker today.

I was on a main road when I needed to adjust my helmet (it didnt feel right). So I pulled over onto the path.
I was fiddling about with it when a chap with a little dog walked past from behind and said it was a nice day to be cycling. He then noticed my camera and asked what it was, so I told him it was incase anything happened to me on the roads so I could use it ass evidence.

After that, there was an awkward pause. I finally said that I would be on my way now so we parted ways.

Thinking back, we could have had a nice chat about my camera, and I wasnt even in a hurry to get anywhere. I am still not sure why it turned out so uncomfortable.

I also had a passenger in a car smile and put her thumb up to me as she passed. However, both when I filtered past and they overtook me again, she just ignored me (well didnt smile). I was a bit confused by that.

so... you're playing with your helmet and filming it at the same time.. in the middle of the street, and some old bloke, after starting a conversation, realises what you're really doing and goes a bit frosty... sounds normal to me

Was the camera running? Perhaps he didn't want to be filmed, and I can't say I would blame him.
I turned it on for when he mentioned it, but I have deleted the footage now as it takes up too much room on my netbook and there wasnt anything worth having on it (traffic incidents).

He wasnt bothered about being filmed (well he didnt say anything). I didnt mention Youtube or anything (like what Traffic Droid does), as he seemed like he wouldnt have cared much even if I had offered to post him up on there.

It all hinges on tone and unseen / unvocalised language, but, is there a chance that you came across a bit strongly? A bit "aggrieved cyclist" / cam-warrior?

If I was asked about the camera, I'd be saying that it was because I wanted to film the ride, to capture the fun and the memories, to show the wife what she's missing out when she drives everywhere and, as an aside, to be able to watch dodgy situations and see if there was anything that I could have done differently to avoid them.
