Nice little ride, spoiled a bit by my first 'get in the cycle lane' moment

Presumably the guy in the silver Mondeo I met today didn't like being held up by me taking primary through this pinch point and tried to intimidate me by riding a couple of inches off my rear wheel.

Then he pulls alongside and shouts 'get in the cycle lane' out of his open window. I just look over and he says it again. What cycle lane would that be? It doesn't start until *after* the pinch point!

I wish I could have done something more eloquent than looking him in the eye and saying 'why don't you ****ing make me' but that's what come out

I think he realised that the junction with traffic lights was just up ahead or maybe he just thought he'd better just leave, because he then took off to my shout of 'yeah, thought not', only to get stopped by the lights. I wasn't making an effort to catch him up, couldn't really be arsed with him tbh and the lights changed for him just as I got to his back bumper. He turned right a bit sharpish so I just flicked him the 'V' sign and carried straight on.

Spoiled an otherwise nice ride out. Lots of people on bikes of all kinds out enjoying the sunshine, including a couple of young cyclists having a private moment down by the bridge over the beck at Hartburn Village, gave them a bit of a shock when I came blasting down the hill

I would suggest that your response was both well measured and appropriate.

I would have been proud of such a well timed delivery.

I admit to having a fiery temper and find it all to easy to loose it with idiot motorists. I am however trying to cool down because, as you have discovered, a small incident can ruin a whole ride. Easier said than done but I feel so much better if I hold the moral high-ground.

Yeah, gotta try and stay cool

BTW, I've just checked my Garmin log and I broke 30mph for the first time today, yay! 31mph in fact  goddam speed demon

I had a brainless dicksplash on a moped do similar to me on Saturday morning. I pointed at his sweet little machine and laughed until he left.

I wonder how inferior he must feel to want to pick on a cyclist, but doing it when riding a 50cc Peugeot is not going to make him into the bully he so wants to be.

I must admit that I almost wish I'd blown him a kiss rather than laughing.

You should have really wound him up and raced away from him lol. You'd probably have a better top speed

I just went into Yarm, wanted to drop into Whittakers for a birthday pressie for my OH. Stopped for a Costa and rode home. I live near Hartburn so I rode the back way, across the fields at the back of the village (a public right of way I never knew existed before I started exploring on the bike) and under the A66 (carried the bike over all the broken glass there ). You then cross the railway, it has been tarted up there in the last week or so, they've installed a little pedestrian level crossing. You come out beside that gym next to Peter Barrats, then I just rode down past Preston Park into Yarm. Took the same route back... 10 mile round trip, not a bad little ride I guess for a (early) lunchtime run to the shops.

I've often thought about having a ride around the barrage. I've ran round there a few times (not recently lol), I'll have to check out the cycling route.

Ah, I know where you mean. We've probably passed each other along there at some point, I like a ride out that way but I've been exploring elsewhere recently...

I've almost conquered my instant temper and abuse response, it never helps and twice has provoked physical violence from th eother party as well as no end of threats and posturing, not a good idea when they're in a faster and bigger vehicle

that said i still bite and always good to hear of old skool Vs being dished out, I'm more of a slightly newer wave single finger man with perhaps a self-gratification artist gesture

although lately I'm doing well with a sad shake of the head, mind you that still provoked a very in the wrong driver to lose it bug time a few weeks back
