Not so common these days I think but I was reminded of an old favourite today.
!970's Test cricketer who was notoriously mean in the pub was nicknamed 'Crime' because...........

.........crime doesn't pay;)

I have a good friend who's surname is Lamb and is known by everyone as Legga - not original.

Any other witty ones out there?

The cricket player, Phil Tuffnell, used to be called 'The Cat' by his team mates. Being a sportsman you might think it was because of his atleticism or agility, but no, it was because he could fall asleep anywhere.

I have just been referred to on the interweb as 'Mr. Fabulous'. I'm trying to come to terms with this, and succeeding fabulously well!

My name isn't Norm, it's a nickname from a certain character in an old US sitcom who was a workshy, overweight, alcoholic accountant.

I don't see it myself.

I went out with a girl who everyone called Polo. It was only after we finished that I found out she was called that because she made a mint out of her hole.

The best has to be the cricketer Ashley Giles aka The King Of Spain - after he had thousands of inscribed mugs made for his testimonial - they were supposed to say "King Of Spin"

Worked with a guy called Zoom he was so slow at doing anything. He actually looked like a cross between the honey monster and a sloth.

I said it one day for a laugh and it stuck. I always that's really funny that in a place of work everyone called him zoom but to everyone else in the world he was Martin. He even answers to it!!!!

Couldnt be bothered to retype this from another thread...but it fits well here too.

My nephews dog is nicknamed "normally"...for real.

The first time we took it out my nephew kept saying to call her to heel, so Mrs Jeez and I immediatley started calling "to-heel, come here to-heel, good dog!" which wound my nephew up to the point of bursting until he shouted at us "No call her normally"....We looked at each other, grinned and couldn't resist.. ...it stuck ever since!

his neighbour has a cat called ceefer...as in ceefer-cat!

The pets theme reminds me of my Gran's budgie, which she called Ben. When they later discovered it was actually female they renamed it Ben Hur.

My brother was the original 'bum face' before Will Carling for obvious reasons.

I was called Mike at school; I have no idea why.
