props to Kurt and the chaps.

I rode into work last week...in the wind...and over 10 miles of riding through the centre of londons congested roads...I put my foot down Once.

ONCE!

Something like 20 sets of traffic lights, innumerable other road users, traffic, road works and all the other stuff sent to delay progress through town.

Only one stop...amazing ride.

Incidentaly, to those riding up the old Kent road to work...5.30 people!

..seems to be the perfect time to experience the nirvana of city cycling and well worth an early rise to experience.

Even out in the countryside and small towns, the easier cycling is a small compensation for the pain of getting up so early.

I have the other end of the spectrum... I finish at midnight or later. I have a semi urban to rural commute. Usually I extend it out for fun. But I have always insisted that after midnight is the best time to ride

I find once my feet are on the floor when in vertical then the worst of the pain is out the way.

I've commuted all sorts of routes and environments since school, and my countryside commute never fails to lift my mood. The crisp effing cold dark winter ones are my favourite.

In late shift I get it going home as well after midnight.

Managed a once only foot down on a 7 mile commute one morning this week about 8, though a fortuitous timing of lights (including crossing the M32 slip roads). I can't be bothered to get up at 5:30 to find out how much easier it would be then, but probably lovely and peaceful:okay:

Very lucky with lights if you are only putting your foot down once! Or good track standing skills.

Used to manage it quite often on my commute into Glasgow but the lights in the city centre always put paid to keeping a good run going.

I rarely put my foot down on my ride into work. The joys of having a 15 mile cycle path and a mile each end across deserted city centres. Us early risers get the best deal especially now it's light when I set of at 5am.
