morning CC!

i was too busy fannying about this morning and didn't make time for breakfast - i will not do this again - after about 2 miles on the bike i felt sluggish - i'm not quick either so for me to notice says it all - my legs ached and i pretty much struggles to maintain any kind of consistency  i had a good meal last night and slept like the dead so it wasn't tiredness as such, just no energy to call upon. newbie mistake i guess. having said all that it wasn't all bad...

started a short incline which drops down before a low bridge at the local railway station; an artic' caught me at the start of the rise but didn't pressure me by trying a pass, he held back and just waited the few minutes it took for me to crest it and shoot under the bridge. he got big thumbs up and a little wave of apology from me.

also had some amusing banter in the city with some lads in a refuse lorry...caught them at a set of lights and filtered to about 2 cars in front - beat them to the next set thanks to traffic - over the lights and across the bridge they caught and passed me, waving as they did so. bottom of the bridge and a few hundred yards later i catch them and pass them while they queued at a roundabout, waving and laughing as they all give me the finger. they pass me on the straight to the next roundabout where i promptly passed them again thanks to traffic, giving them the finger whereupon one of them mentioned the spurs tattoo on my leg and his displeasure at having to see it this morning - it brightened up what could have been a pretty rubbish commute thanks to my skipping breakfast.

I tried commuting without breakfast one day last week, never again.

I do 10 mile + and 99.9% of the time I don't eat breakfast.

Sometimes I don't even eat lunch and I do the return journey!

my commute is split - 5.5 miles to the station, a rest while on my way to the city, then 3.5 miles to work but i found this morning that my body really doesn't like having only a coffee to call upon when i start cycling - i shall obey its command from here on! i should know better from jogging really but clearly i needed a reminder - i was ravenous by the time i got in, though i was very good and swerved the junk food and poured a bowl of muesli

Did something similar today. Made the family sandwiches, realised not enough bread for me - ah I'll buy something at work, used the last piece of bread as toast, went to work, relalised I'd forgotten my wallet and phone, so no lunch. I've got another 20 miles to do later, riding into town and back home

Fortunately, my wife works 10 mins away, so has driven down, given me some crisps, half a sandwich and a cuppa soup. Saved !

Cant eat brekky before my 5 miles- slows me down & very uncomfortable... But i highly recommend a big glass of good quality fruit juice to get blood sugar up & give me energy for the hills... But gotta eat by mid morning or i'm chewing my arm off...

Out of interest what body type are you? I'm ectomorph and need to eat a proper breakfast beforehand.

When I was doing a hard morning workout, circuits - much worse than cycling for your belly, at 6am I'd have to have a cereal bar and/or a lucozade beforehand or feel really lightheaded.
