Just something I was looking at/thinking about.
I use standard ear buds for listening to the music on my android phone.
I have noticed a growing number of people using BIG headphones so looked at some of them...........LUMMEY, BLINKIN', BLUMIN' ECKASLIKE..........they are £200-400:eek:.
Just wondering how people justify this for listening via an iPhone/android......can they really be that good?

I've got a pair of Bose QuitComfort 25's, primarily use them when flying, they're magic, nothing to do with the quaility of the input, it's the fact that they totally remove the surrounding background noise.

Most of those BIG headphones are probably NOT actually noise-cancelling. That type use clever tech to pick up external sound and feed an inverse signal to the phones to cancel out most of the noise.

The type of non-cancelling phones with big seals round them do filter out a lot of the noise just by physically blocking it out.

You do not have to pay £200-400 to get a good pair of headphones. I paid £69 for a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M40X headphones which are a HUGE improvement over your typical earbuds. (They are not perfect, but they are pretty good.) Try a pair of reasonable headphones and you will not have to ask again if they make much difference! :okay:

You can get very good earbud type, but they are as expensive as (or more expensive) than headphones of equivalent quality.

I think that there is an element of headphones as fashion accessories going on too!

As Colin says, most big headphones don't cancel external noise, they just block it out. But unless you're using a pneumatic drill this is generally all you need. For bang for your buck, you'll be very hard put to beat these AKGs - I have the predecessor version, which craps on the (double the price) Dr Dre Beats ones I also have for sound quality (tho' TBH, the Beats ones are a bit comfier to wear).

For Android you'll need 452's

Some headphones have mic, volume and music skip buttons. Apple phones do that differently to Android.

I got a pair of B&O Plays for £90 as an Airport special and they are brilliant. Not total silence but eliminate the vast majority of aircraft noise. Used them on a long train journey too and was very pleased with the level of noise cancelling.

I looked at these, but found the box containing the magic bits was heavy and dragged on the lead

So I went for the QC30 wireless

Stunningly brilliant

The wired thing is when you stop the music, and then switch off the phones.... it is almost overwhelming when all the noise cuts back in

With regard to big headphones, I also use the Parrot Zik 2 which benefit from more versatility and sound options

However they are not compatible with hats and have less battery life.... but Classical music played in the "Concert Hall" mode with the speakers at 5 and 7 o'clock is stunning
