Not the views of SPT?

Cycling along on the way home from work, a taxi passes me a bit close. Certainly not the worst, but enough that I move in front of him at the lights just to signal to him (in a friendly way) that he got too close.

the driver suggests that he was forced by a car overtaking him. I don't agree that this is an excuse, but he is reasonable about it, and we have a conversation, not an argument. Then a bloke wearing an SPT Hi-viz (Strathclyde Passenger Transport) decides to air his views...

Oh dear.

There is a drivers rest stop around the corner (for FIRST buses), so I assume he came from there.

taxi driver definitely guilty of squeezing past, see this a lot on dual carriageways and narrow single tracks. Quite naturally the driver will always veer away from a collision with another vehicle. Problem is, as you pointed out to him, he should have waited behind you until the manouever was safe. Then overtaken wide enough that another car couldn't go past him in the second lane and squeeze him back in.

Bus driver, or whatever he was, just a bloody idiot, love the other person offering up his name though:biggrin:

1.....Enough room there...

2.....Deck the skinny bloke...........

As much as I think you're one of the top sensible posters on here, 1. I don't think that's enough room from the taxi driver, plus mags is right in the door zone of the parked cars. 2. I'd like to also, but that's not good behaviour from us.

Don't forget that these cameras have two problems, one the fixed focal length does distort the angles and I know that in my case the video does not always truly reflect how close a vehicle is because of this.

Secondly the angle of view also affects this, if the head is tilted in to the kerb or out to th eroad this will again alter the perspective.

Guys, notice in my original post I say he passes me a 'bit close'. I certainly wouldn't claim it was the closest, however, it was close enough and unnecessary enough to warrant a quick signal from me (i.e. the 3 feet and width hand gestures I made. I would have been happy to leave it there but the driver wound down his window and wanted a chat.

To be fair to the driver he was reasonable about it. No hard feelings. As for the SPT chap.... thanks to the other bloke I know his name and employer, however, I don't think he is worth it. Just a nob.

I'd just like you to apologise to all of us for your riding in the door zone. :hyper::biggrin:

Ha! I'm not actually in the door zone! I've noticed that with the camera on the right of my head (where it always is) it makes everything on my left look closer and everything on my right look further away. My tyre on my way up there is where a cars left tyre would normally be. I know this, as this is how far out I always cycle up here (sometimes further out).

Looking at the video, you will see I look down earlier on. I actually move out a bit further as I approach the cars.

You're definitely in the door zone for the first parked car, and you're most likely still in the interference zone for the second car, and then again definitely when you filter next to the taxi.

WOW...How great is Scotland!!

Nice Cab driver's (who talk and don't rant)

Member's of the public who only want to ensure that "you're alright" and even the knobs insult you with a cheeky smile on their face.

Why do I live down here?

Mag, I Love your riding style and also your "no crap" attitude...but to be honest if I pulled up every cabbie that did that to me on a daily basis, I'd take about 5 hours to get to work (and probably survive a week).
