Got up a bit earlier this morning and fancied taking a 10 mile detour to work, taking advantage of slightly quieter roads to have a longer ride in.

Happened to be the very same morning that our Office Jr. had arrived slightly earlier than normal (again due to quieter roads) and had just left a steaming hot mug of tea on my desk the second before I walked in

Made my morning, that did - Fantastic timing - I think I'm going to enjoy these summer holidays even if I am at work!

Having just read you blog from the link in your signature, a very well done at having started cycling at 39 stone!!
It give me the utmost of encouragement that I too can get fit, and I'm only 9 stone!!

Anyway, on looking at it, how do you rate the percentages of the hills?? Is it simply the angle of the incline, or is there some sort of equasion to do??

Anyway, well done!

Thanks very much

The percentages are done by my Garmin Edge 705

Oh, right, and here was me thinking there was some sort of reasoning behind it.

The reason I asked was because there is a swine of a hill quite close to me, and when I looked it up on the internet, the steepest part was 7% on the gradient profile. It is quite steep by my standards.

And yet, you were talking of a gradient of 22%, which to me must be practically vertical!!

Is there more than one system in place and 22% has it's respective equivalent, or am I really just being a big jessy about 7%??

7% over any sort of distance burns, infact I found a7% one last night that didnt look like 7% but by the top I was paning and my legs were burning, it came out of nowhere. So no, your no jessy.

The 22% I do in the mornings is HELL (Check youtube for "39 stone cyclist Joel lane) I'm not even sure how I manage to get up it (Im sure Fozzy will back me up just how steep it is) but I do (Normally at no more than 5 mph by the top I get to the top) I think regardless of how big I am I have kept a high power to weight ratio ! I can hold 20-22mph on the flat without breaking a sweat these days and can sprint to over 34Mph so I guess that helps me !

If she'd not have made me one I'd have drunk hers instead.. :becool:

I always get my morning cuppa made but I usually end up shelling out for the biccies

I know your office...its that place that located way back in the 1950's.

eughhhhhh

I would NEVER make ANYONE a cup of tea as a duty. I would only ever make one for someone else if they make me one and we all just kinda make them for each other when in the kitchen.

I really couldnt stand the idea that someone see's it as their duty to feed and water me.

Go in early tomorrow and make your new Junior a cup of tea , then bask in the self satisfaction that you have repayed your debt

Nobody sees it as their duty and if you don't mind, you obviously don't know my office. You THINK you do, but you might well be wrong.

If you MUST have it explained to you, she is not "new"...ah, got that one wrong didn't you already? She also would be most unhappy if someone removed her morning tea-making as it means she gets to stand for 120 minutes in the canteen watching the telly and nattering in the morning (by her own admission)

If I made her a brew first thing, she would be straight into filing and letter-sending and not have chance to natter to her mate from the office downstairs. It would be as helpful and appreciated as the old joke about the scout grabbing an old lady and escorting her across a road she didn't want to cross in the first place. Why should I spoil her morning just so I can boast about how I made a cup of tea for someone?

Now, my cup of tea still tastes nice and no matter how much you want to try to make it taste bitter, you will not succeed.

Perhaps YOUR workplace is stuck in the past if one simple cup of tea makes you jump to so many conclusions?

It's not who makes the cup of tea that's telling, it's who has to wash the cups afterwards. (In my new job, me .)

Hmm...I would but not sure if hot tea is on the courier's list of prohibited items...blooming health and safety! It's political correctness gone mad - MAD I tell you!
