Allegedly...and I'm switching off mission and into a cave bore here (see what I did there...bore!)...the caves are part of a system that stretches out underneath Joydens wood (which is miles away) and apart from being a war time bunker was also the set for a few 1970 TV sci-fi shows (Dr who etc, blakes 7 etc) as well as pop videos.

It's all going off in Chislehurst.

and yes, they are at the bottom of my road, along with a very nice gastropub, if you ever come again.
The guy who did the tour we went on (he was a local lad) said that they went on for miles, had been there for years and years and years and became basically a small town during WWII: if I remember correct, there were 5000 people who more or less lived down there .. one family per small alcove, with a curtain screening them from the tunnels. There was a cinema and all sorts, plus a HUGE list of rules posted by the entrance.

There was some filming going on while we where there; can't remember what it was for, but we got to see part of the set. And he showed us where there'd been a few gigs / parties, even weddings, during the 80s and 90s. Quite a place.

left work 40 minutes ago and I'm still on the bus going back to the park and ride. Traffic at a standstill - about to jump off and walk, not that it will do me any good as it will still be a standstill when I get to the car.

God I hate driving to work. Ah well, only have to last out until Monday...

Testify K! I've probably just got out of the same gridlock.

<local_stuff>Just picked up the car from a service in Winnall and its taken me 50 minutes to get to Fulflood. Mental!

There were some tentative proposals to make the centre of Winchester a shared space, but they were thrown out because St Georges was too narrow I believe.</>

There are still plans to do that in Jewry Street I think. Took me 1hr 50 to get home in the end. Normally takes 50 mins by bike. If I hadn't had to pick up beer and tents for the weekend during my lunch break I would have been on the bike and £2.70 up on parking charges too.

Tomorrow I've got to park in Tower Street. Close to the office it may be (just a quick ride in the lift) but my God its going to hurt my pocket. Snowdon better be worth it.

Next time you ring your Uncle Bollo to borrow a cycle trailer.

<way_too_local>Watch out for half a discarded Gregg's Pasty in Tower Street. The other half is all over my shoes:sad:</>
