Not sure whether or not to contact First South Yorkshire...

Heading into town at 11:35 this morning, taking primary in the bus/cycle lane to discourage dangerous passing, First bus YB58 ETD Service 75 comes sailing past in the outside lane then immediately, whilst still alongside, flicks on indicators and pulls into stop.

http://tinyurl.com/yjwhkse (location - go back one frame for an illegal WVM park and door opening!)

Completely blanked me whan I pulled up in front and asked why he had pulled in on me. I' have taken a "SMIDSY", but being blanked really wound me up, it reinforced the "my vehicle is bigger therfore f**k you" attitude that I feel was behind the pass and pull in

Only because I stopped sharply was I not pancake shaped.

Bit of a dilemma as I support the first drivers' industrial action and think that the company treats their employees like dirt. I don't want the bloke sacked, I just wish there would be some way that a complaint could be acknowledged and ideally addressed by a dressing-down and a reinforcement of the idea that the bigger the vehicle, the bigger the responsibility...

I would make an official complaint. The guy's a menace to society.

Similar incident with an Arriva bus a few years ago. Disputed at the local level. They also said that due to the number of vehicles they operate they would never be able to narrow it down to service number let alone fleet number.
Did a bit of digging, contacted one of the directors at home. He passed it back to the local garage who within hours of this were able to identify the bus & the driver.

I think it's justifiable to separate out your concerns for workers' rights and your immediate priority of staying safe and getting home to wife and kids (if you have them, I don't know). Indeed you could argue that poor driving erodes public support to the drivers. In any event, most buses have internal and external cameras these days, so a letter of complaint, cc-ed to your local councillor, MP, and anyone else you can think of, might be worth it.

Had several run-ins with First Bus (?) a few years ago. Made formal complaint about last incident, had on-site meeting with senior inspector, PR rep and a manager. They sent round reminder about driving around cyclists, together with it being a disciplinary offence. Never had another incident after that.

It does work

Yes, I've decided to draft a letter just to register it.

I think all it needs is a reminder. I think the rot starts at the top with First...having a drinking acquaintance who is a First driver I've seen some of the crap that gets dished out - and that's just in official letters.

I don't believe that making drivers lives miserable leads to a good service for passengers and other road users alike

But...I don't want to be squashed because of it either!!

Thanks classic33 for the details...very comprehensive!

That just reminded me, A bus did a stupid close overtake, about 30-40cm space. I couldn't catch him again since I needed to get to school, but I completely forgot about it until now!

I have complained about just such an incident involving an Arriva bus here in London. As the complaint went through the usual tfl portal I'm inclined to think little was done about it. They always claim that they pass the complaints on but I've seen little improvementin driving.

I'd still send the company concerned a strongly worded letter though. How you feel his employers treat the workforce should have absolutely no bearing on his actions as a driver. He's employed as a professional and so should exhibit professional standards.

End of!

+1 - the treatment of employees is a seperate issue, so don't muddy the waters with it.

Okay, maybe you're right.

Convoy of 2 First buses RLJ'ing through roadworks followed by a barrage of abuse from the roadwork crew. Who then waved me (waiting) to come on through (they'd set all lights to red temporarily to move their equipment across by the looks of it) saying that I was OK, but not "bankers in buses" (or words to that meter and rhyme!!)
