A whole weekend off work for me.

Unfortunately, it comes at the cost of a knackered bike, wheel and pair of legs.

Id just left my house yesterday, pouring rain and the roads were a little greasy, but nowhere near the worst Ive ever seen. Then I came around a bend to the left and the next thing I know im sat on the road with my bike on the pavement of the opposite side. All I can think is that I must have hit some oil or something.

But still, a decent excuse for a wheel upgrade? Might have to do some shopping to make myself feel better.

Hope you're ok! At least you have an excuse for shopping!

Hope your legs recover quickly. Maybe you hit a diesel spill? There seems to be a lot of it around at the moment, I had a big rear wheel slide on a mini roundabout last week......quite fun actually on 3 wheels ;-)

Don't post often, but Thursday night did for me, light rain, penultimate homeward left turn before home, made a thousand times before, all weathers, this time the front wheel shot away, face planted into the tarmac hard. Thought I'd got away with it, cuts, grazes, bruising, cracked cycle helmet etc. Cycled the last few hundred yards, but next day, couldn't move arm, left leg still swollen, went to hospital, arm just sprained but they told me I had broken my ankle.

I don't know what happened either, nothing appeared out of the ordinary, one minute freewheeling round the bend, next thing sliding on the tarmac.

Good job I've just compressed my entire DVD collection on to a NAS, I am probably going to have time to watch most of it over the next few weeks.

Bad luck there. Hopefully the only damage to yourself is a bit of road rash - wheels can be replaced after all! If things still hurt in a few days it's probably worthwhile paying the doctor a visit. Good luck with the shopping!

This sounds all too familiar to me (except that in my case, I was braking going down a hill, and rather quickly realised that I wasn't going to be cycling the last few hundred meters home).

I hope the break is a simple one - though the fact that it took a day for you to realise suggests that it probably is. What did they tell you? Even so, the bad news is that you'll be off the bike for 6-8 weeks, and it'll probably take some time afterwards to get back to full strength.

I also had a slide last week on a roundabout, luckily I was going slow, it was the rear wheel and I managed to stay on the bike, I reckon it was a diesel spill

Thanks.

I think the break is simple, but they are not sure of the ligament damage, they seemed a bit surprised I was not in more pain. I could take load, but had no rotational movement without pain. Four to Six weeks in a cast was the initial estimate.

I have a spin bike and plan to use this extensively when the cast comes off.

I now hate stairs with a passion, bloody stupid invention if you ask me

Hope it heals well peter. Thankfully mine looked a lot worse than it was. The rear wheel just came from under meand the bike shot off over the road, I fell onto my bum cheek and slid along on my legs, nothing else even hit the floor. So just a bit of bruising and some scrapes.
