One Call Insurance - Be advised - Dick Turpin lives on.........

The M.I.L. is insured with the above company and she has just changed her car for a new one.

She rang One Call to change the vehicle over and they have charged her a £55 admin fee :cursing:

FWIW her new car is the same make, model and specification as the old one, the only difference is it's new and it's a different colour!

I'd expect any insurance to charge regardless of how simple a process it is, but 55 feckin' pounds is obscenely disproportionate IMO.

Rant over, and breathe.

Was the company chose for its low premiums?

If so you've now found out one method of how their low prices are achieved.

Yeah this seems to be the case, but it's hard to swallow when you work in a heavily CSI driven line of work as I do.

What's wrong with offering premiums that aren't made to look like telephone numbers and good customer service.

If we acted this way in my line of work we'd be driven out of business before we know it :cursing:

i know of one company that doesnt charge admin fees, the premiums are slightly bigger to begin with but there are loads of extras thrown in.
they also come out near the top with which for customer satisfaction (for the last couple of years!)

i always avoid the "cheap" insurers as i like knowing what i am actually covered for without having to decipher small print and exclusions.

I had this not too long ago when I went to change my address.

They wanted £40, even though there were only 6 weeks remaining on the policy.

I (politely) told them to stick it. That I would let it lapse, then renew with someone else and try not to crash it or get it stolen in the meantime.

When I told this to a woman in the call centre at my new insurer, she told me they would have charged £50, so I guess it's standard now.

I hate insurance companies with a passion, almost as much as I hate letting agents - Almost. They exist only to bleed you dry for a service that costs them very little to provide, which you have no option but to use. (no disrespect to any letting agents on here, of course!).
