I decided to cycle the short distance to get to a meeting this afternoon as I've been off the bike in commuting terms for about near three months. Bit of a rush as time had overrun and had to swap the comfortable saddle from the carbon bike onto the commuter and so didn't have time to pump the wheels up with the track pump. On my way to the meeting I got off the bike as decided the tyres were too deflated to not puncture so had a quick top up with the handheld pump. I got back onto the bike with one leg to clip in and had a one legged clipless moment (good grief this is what happens after prolonged periods off from cycling- you lose all your skills and get stupid!) trying to get back onto the bike- the poor bike toppled over with me on it one leg clipped in failing to unclip and I trapped my ankle under the bike and twisted it quite badly with the weight of myself and the bike- was limping onto the pavement again - thought I'm close to home sod the meeting but then forced myself back into the pedals and slowly cycled off in pain and then thought to myself 'what pain?' amongst the stinging throbbing - seemed to work, as it was important to get to this meeting (actually related to the HGV campaign on Cyclechat-will post later).

Hasn't come up yet but is sore as hell!

Thought I'd share that as it's worth a giggle- I mean, who has one legged clipless moments?!!!

HEHE, tt, I had a near miss the other week. Getting off the bike, unclipped one foot, put it down on the floor and tried to unclip the other foot. the bike decided to slip on the wet floor with my foot still atatched, luckily I managed to get the bike upright again and unclip gracefully.

I'm so glad it's not just me!

However, wasn't as lucky as you- the bike slipped towards me and I was caught out and fell towards my leg and twisted my ankle...if you can't even unclip when one leg's in the there is no point!!

No larger than life ankle thankfully - must get out on the bike tommorow

Hahah that is just cruel BM!!

I may be in posession of a helmet cam one day soon, but it's these incidents that would just be errm embarrassing, plus I like to make odd and sardonic comments about my commute..that is too weird to record!!!

Hpoe the ankle feels better soon.

I once had a shoelace wrap around a pedal axle effectively tying my foot to the bike and cutting off the circulation in my foot.;)
No way to 'unclip', I also had toe clips at the time.

The fall to the curb was enevitable, slow(thank God)and in a quiet side street.
It left me laying on my side, still astride the bike and having to cut the laces with a knife so I could actually disengage my foot from the pedal.

And well done for forging on with your plans, it's not the night to be miserable on a bike tonight.

td1nka - that sounds unpleasant!! Glad you survived that one!

It'll be no problem, bit of brusing but nothing that can't be ridden on - I'm hoping to get back on the bike tommorow for a ride around, the fitness has dropped off a cliff and I need to get out and about, especially IF I am going to keep up with the Bromley lot (I think it will be alright as Ian will soon be having sleepless nights so that will make him a less capable rider-I hope!!)

There will be takers if people are up for it!

I think there's been a last minute dash for a saaaaarrrrf London ride to move the CC jersey on tommorow night- are you free/up for it?

Might be worth asking Arallsopp as he's coming through Lewisham. Have you not got a bike to lend TheDoctor?

I could bring a bike - I wasn't going to, but it's no great bother to do so. I am not riding an MTB belonging to a young girl. I may not have much dignity, but there are limits. Plus I'd probably break it.
