:smile:Going to work this morning, travelling down Old Church Road intending to turn right into Gayer street and can hear a car behind me, I slowed down and stayed on the left side of the road and waited for him to go past, turned out that he was also going right and he let me turn in front of him. I waved a thank you as he passed me going down Gayer street and got a waved acnowedgement back from him.
:ohmy:A short time later in Sewall Highway I am passed by a small silver hatchback and get punched by the front seat passenger as they go past. The fella hung out of the window to punch me in the small of the back, I think he thought it was funny, first time that has happened to me and I have been cycling for a long time. I have taken details of reg and make and have reported this to the police and they are treating it as an assault and are investigating. The first incident got Monday of to a good start the second one spoiled it.

sorry to hear that, it certainly is an assualt at the very least, best of luck with it being dealt with

Sorry to hear that, touch wood the worst I've had to deal with is neds throwing stuff, usually eggs or fireworks; and their aim is poor. Or verbal abuse.

Not commuting but I've cycled back from the relatives a few time (circa 16.5mls) in the pitch black and on the whole cars have been great: plenty of room, no honking or objecting to you not being in a cycle lane. 2 out of the 4 times I've had neds come up behind me to try and left hook me/ shout abuse spoiling what otherwise would have been a great ride.

Good on you for reporting it to the police. Hope you get a result.

Old Church Road? Gayer street? Sewall Highway? All in London, presumably?

Hope the police treat this as seriously as it deserves. Suck eggs and all that, but get pictures of any bruising and/or marks from the punch.

not that i'm vindictive but i'd lay it on thick, exaggerate it a bit. say he smelled strongly of alcohol and had a knife.

Sorry & shocked to hear that Dave r.

I only live about a mile from Sewall Highway and cycle it a fair bit.
I sometimes get grief off other people when I'm out, but usually only verbal and not often.
I guess I go out expecting numptyness and I'm not usually disappointed!
I think I'd feel better if someone hit me out of anger rather than 'just for a laugh'.;)
Concentrate on the good experience anyway. At least there are some nice folk around.

Shotguns! I would rather have grenade launchers! No seriously no harm done, more surprised than anything else, no marks and just a slight ache today. Only been doing that route since we moved in the spring, up to now no problems, in fact its been very pleasant and most drivers have been OK. The early start helps, I am out the house around half six and normally there aren't many people about. At night its very busy but no problems up to now. The old route went through the city centre and could get a bit interesting sometimes.
