Taking advantage of the errrr, "lull" in work. Booked a one way flight to Toulouse in May. Plan is to then cycle north to one of the channel ports (probably Caen, but possibly Cherbourg or Le Havre). To keep costs down I will be camping, with possibly an occasional night in one of those cheap but functional French chains like Formule1. Weapon of choice for this trip will be my Specialized Tricross, carrying rear panniers only. So only 3 sets of clothes allowed, and will be washing one set every night. No cooking will be done! Provisional route is Toulouse-Montauban-Villeneuve sur Lot-Bergerac-Perigueux-Nontron-Confolens-Montmorillon-Loches-Amboise-Alencon-Falaise-Caen. Any route recommendations welcomed!

Hey,

Hows it going. Just paid for my flight down to Avignon and going to do the same sort of thing as you and camp all the way back up. I have 19 days to do it so a nice slow pace is what I'm looking forward to.
I got the boat down to Bilbao a couple of years ago and came back up the coast to St Nazaire then St Malo had a great time but I did too much mileage and it took the edge of it a bit. 40 miles average is enough for me.
I'll be on the ferry from Caen on the 6th June so if your about and you see me come and say Hi.

Have a great trip.

Agree with you re the mileage; laden down with a tent etc. I was reckoning on a maximum of 50 or so miles per day, with the odd rest day thrown in. Not sure when I will hit the Normandy coast, but the 6th of June would be good as it's the anniversary of the D-Day landings. I will PM you with my mobile # nearer the time, would be good to meet up in Caen and compare notes over a hard earned bierre pression!
