I'm trying to open an online banking account with the Halifax bank. I already have a current account with them, but I'm finding it difficult to get past the below stage to open an online account. When I type in my mother's maiden name, or my dad's middle name it asks me to re-enter memoral information. That's where I get stuck! I delete either name I'm trying, type it again, but it just shows re-enter memoral information, with the Next key faded, not responding to me touching it. What am I doing wrong? I tapped the Back key, only to go back to creating both a username and a password. Another question. I left it for a while, then on going back to it, it had gone back to the start of the applying process, I presume to prevent and possible fraud. Therefore does that mean it hasn't stored my bank details I'd successfully sent? I'm always wary of fraud, even with supposed fraud proof online sites! I really don't want to create online banking as I don't trust it, but I'm making a substantial purchase and the seller says the only way I can pay for the item is via online banking. I suppose in the 'old days', we'd go into such as the Halifax Building Society and get a was it a banker's draught or something, which was like a cheque. Then you'd hand it over to the seller, or something like that.🤔

Are you clicking the "Re-enter your memorable information" button after the first entry?

Cake or ice cream? The choice is endless ...

Once you've entered a name, have you clicked/tapped to the field that says 're-enter you memorable information'
That might open up the option to continue?

After you've entered your aunties name and hit 're-enter you memorable information', does the field go blank?
Maybe that's when you can re-enter aunties name and 'Next' becomes available?

Wary of fraud… you are giving away too much flipping information!

Thanks for telling me what your memorable word is… a Fraudster could now source a marriage certificate to find out the maiden name and attempt to access your account and then steal all your money.

What you should immediately be doing is deleting this thread, phoning your bank and asking them to talk you through it and choose a word that is unique to you and is not searchable on public records!

Barclays often do awareness training, please go on such a course and learn how you are exposing yourself to the world!

Your bank, the Halifax, already have your bank details. You are just creating a way of accessing the money in the account.

@bikingdad90 has hit the nail square on the head with contact your bank. And getting their help. They can see what you, and we, can't, so will be in the best position to help you.

The above is good advice. In addition, go into a Halifax branch and go through the setting up with a Halifax professional. It can save ages in following dead-end pathways to registration.

9 Union St, Lancashire BB5 1LF, if you don't want to do it over the phone.
You can also ask their advice on why you're doing it, echoing @AndyRM's concern.

Also I'd not be entirely comfortable using online banking for a purchase, especially a large one, unless I knew the seller.

this

i'd walk away from any deal that required money transfer to an unknown/unverifiable seller
