Anyone else get the impression it's not as frank and reliable as it should be? It's rare anyone gets less than a glowing review, even if service or customer behaviour is not that great. I think most people won't give less than great feedback in case they get bad feedback in return.

Particular company in mind? If you said amazon or ebay, I think you may have a point...

I'm not too sure about Trip Advisor either.

Ebay mostly. I find Amazon scores tend to be either generous or mean.

I've found that you can't rely on an average rating as one person with a high or low score scuppers it.

I'm suspicious of Amazon type reviews where there is a long glowing review with description of the product and how its changed the reviewers life that, just perhaps, it may be someone connected to the product reviewing it.

I don't think you can take much notice of reviews unless there are lots of them for that product, because you are always going to get people who are so pleased or annoyed that they have to tell everyone. Not many people buy something and think "well, it was ok. I must send in a review."

I only bother with reviews which say "I got product X but it isn't as good as the Y that I used to have" or "it's a good product because it solves problem Z".

totally agree re feedback , and why dont people leave feedback !

Another classic example here the last reviewer gave it 1 star simply because they couldn't uninstall the AV or work out how to change the RAM!!!
