Wasn't much about, but I found it. Took a shady corner too quickly, slid sideways off, but a nice gentle landing. Could've been a lot worse. Haven't come off on ice in a good while!

Yup me too. On my motorbike, 100 yards from work. Black ice/front wheel interface followed by a 15 yard slide down the road. My hip hurts.

Me too. I been dreading it but had my first slip. Turning left at a mini-roundabout at the bottom of a flyover. Lucky had already slowed down to give way to a car coming from the right, normally would have took it at speed. Oh well, not anymore now I know it's a hotspot.

Shouted at an incoming cyclist there was ice about 100 yards down the road, he looked at me like I was wearing a feather boa, not sure this is the done thing, suppose I was making a drama out of it.

Narrow escape yesterday: there's a right hand turn from a "big" housing estate road into a smaller road. The whole area tends to be pretty quiet and I usually swoop in quite enthusiastically as I've just come down a hill and have to go back up one just after making the turn.

Yesterday, though, it was icy and so I was a bit slower than usual, plus there was a car coming the other way up the "big" road so I decided to wait for it as the driver seemed to be accelerating quite hard. Course, as soon as I made that decision he seemed to slow down so I was waiting, waiting, waiting for him to go past. I was more or less stopped by the time he went past.

When I turned in, both wheels did a huge slide more or less as soon as I started to turn, but at the speed I was doing it was easy enough to get it back. Had I been going at the original - slightly slower than usual - speed it would have been interesting, especially as I'd most likely have been sliding towards the car had I hit the deck.

I had been taking it easy (even by my standards) and watching out for ice but I'd missed this patch, probably 'cos I was focussing on the car. Lesson learnt.

I'd do the same, and be grateful if you did it for me.

Me too - though it might take a second for me to process your message, and in the interim I'd be looking at you like you were wearing a feather boa. Sorry.

Me too. Right outside my front door. My house is on the right hand side of the road so I set off cross the road straighten the wheel, splat. hmm.

Stand up. start out in a straight line and am fine all the way into work. Take it Gently out there!

I did a few test twists on my feet on the pavement and road outside my house. Very slippery. I couldn't be bothered getting changed and using the car so thought I would risk it and try and get over the fear I have with ice.

I walked until I came to the main roads which (thankfully) were fine all the way to work. Had a few people wingeing about me not using the bike lanes though.

I took one corner very slowly but the front wheel still slipped. I suspect I would be bleeding profusely had I taken it at my usual speed!

Still, the biggest danger this morning came from the van driver who deliberately swerved at me twice after I suggested he might like to give me some more room. Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to get his reg.

Cab - just what happened to me. No damage (except to dignity). ;)

Fell off 200 yards into a 6.5 mile commute. Can't remember last time the ice was quite this troublesome! Ended up walking the last bit, and saw a couple of other cyclists doing the same.

Hadn't imagined there would be so many people offed today!

I think that the little bit of rain we had went and froze on us in the early hours. Proper black ice in places.

I'm off the (commuting) bike until it thaws a bit. Came off last week and hit my back on the kerb in the process.

Mine was absolutely f*cking terrifying, was cold at 7am, bit frosty and then rained, sheet ice, turned off main road, front wheel went, kept it upright (just), onto the unmade road, bad mistake, was like a skating rink, it must be bad if you use the crud in the middle of the road for grip, I get to the end of the road which is nice new tarmac instead of farm track and it was utterly slick, I went very slowly, was unclipped and was fine until the Land Rover came round the corner sliding in my direction, luckily he wasnt going too fast but it just shows have gormless car drivers are, no awareness of the conditions.

Carry on and the roads were better but ended up riding primary as secondary was still icy, car drivers were getting ratty, one qquite close dropped right back when I had a twitch at 15 mph and I thin khe realised how bad it was, if they cat see it, they assume its not there. A HGV (rare on this section) appeared in my mirror, so I pulled into a driveway and stopped until it went past, I am not taking the chance of falling off on ice when there is 20 or 30 tonnes behind me, not that bothered about making progress that I cant stop.

I bottled out of the main road and used the track at the side as though it looked fine, I wasnt taking any more chances, five or six "moments" is enough for any journey, arrived feeling smug that I had made it and nearly went on my arse outside the showers !

That ride seriously rattled me....
