Usually use a FB road bike for work but because of the ice in the morning have turned to the MTB with slicks.

What a difference!

1) Slower (obviously).
2) I've really felt the old legs working so much more than usual.
3) Very much felt the weight - especially on the front.

But ... have enjoyed the change .....

Oh and the saddle has done my head in! Same height, same reach, diff saddle!

I rode by hybrid [sirrus] the other day after a few weeks now on the roadie [allez] and couldn't believe how sluggish the hybrid felt. Felt so much wider as well.

When I first got on the MTB, I felt like the front wheel had a mind of it's own (in lock on the fork too - it's a Cannondale F600 SL).

Very weird feeling.

I'm planning to, but want to try and stay on the road bike as long as possible (it's so much lighter, faster and less hard work than the MTB).

I'll quite possibly be changing my route too when the winter really sets in - some of the road sections I wouldn't fancy too much on the slower bike.

I think if we are going to get more snow then I might invest in a MTB at one stage.I could never face catching da tube.

No - still on the slicked MTB - just treated it to some new bits - Deore XT SPD's, new chain, Tacx Sealed Jockey wheels, Blackburn Mars 4.0 1w Rear (compact and very bright) and finally a full service (by me - including re-grease hubs)....

It is a fair amount heavier than the road bikes, and not as fast, but the riding position suits my commute.

Will be on Monday as picked up new bike today. It's been a while coming, but I drove back from Norwich this morning with a Burrows 8 Freight tucked the car next to me. Only had a quick up and down the road with it so far, and then again with the kids in the back, but it's just fantastic. Harry, just 5, then demanded to be taken to school in it, and "can I lie on a pillow reading a book?"
