Argh.

Cycling West on A560 in Cheadle (just after junction with Edgeley Road), filtering slowly in the left. Rode through what I thought was a puddle, it wasn't - hit a pot hole and lost the front wheel. Glanced off an Astra and skidded into the back of a taxi. Must have hit it with the bars side on as the right drop has bent in. Also hit the boot of the cab with my helmet, and have left a dent in the boot.

Gave my details to the taxi driver (British Cycling Insured), and guy behind that I'd glanced wasn't bothered.

So watch out for those pesky puddles.

Bike is fine - needs new bars/tape. Front guards pinged out of the secuclips, and my saddle needed re-setting straight !

Be careful out there.

I had a friend, while trying to cross a dual carriageway with a pedestrian barrier to try and stop people doing that, who stumbled out in front of a taxi, he head butted the taxi which was travelling at 30mph. He destroyed the headlight and dented the area around it but the friend was fine, although he was very drunk. So took him off to A&E, which was on the same side of the road to check him out, no damage to his head, the taxi driver was sure he had killed him and was very relieved to see him just stand up and walk away.

Just had to phone the wife.... OMG I'll get a beating when I get home (given the 'sh1t' she has had to deal with in my last crash).

Taxi driver wasn't too bothered, and if he can pop it back out he won't bother phoning. He only took my name and phone number - I didn't even get time to take his - he wasn't at all concerned. He did ask how I was - fine, little stiff now, but everything else is OK - including the helmet.

Well, time to phone round for some new bars - time for that upgrade from Ritchey Comp bars to Ritchey Pro - to match my Pro stem (LBS didn't have Pro bars in when I had my bike built) - Oh and new tape and brake cables - might as well.

Is the hole on fill that hole? If it is you may well be able to claim -- if it isn't you should put it on to prevent similar accidents to other people.

Glad you're OK. Cheshire/Trafford roads are in a terrible state of repair. Wifes don't seem to like the whole bouncing off of cars thing. Is your bike ridable?

As above, I think insurance will be a good thing to stop procastinating about.

Ditto that you are ok.

I'm teaching a friend to cycle on the road "look over your shoulder" "move to the centre of the lane" "move out the door zone". On Sunday we went out after heavy rain on Saturday "don't go through puddles if you can avoid it, there may be a pothole"

I learnt this the easy way, just an unexpected jolt. Thanks for the reminder for all of us.

Bike is perfectly rideable - just bent drops.

Will have a look for the hole tomorrow - once it's dried out (hopefully). Just couldn't avoid riding through it.

Some people will do anything for an excuse to buy more bling, even headbutting taxis (ponders whether I can get away with doing something similar and getting a new bike?)

Hmm, the upgrade to Pro went further - WCS in the end. They were the only bars in the shop that were the same as my Comps - the Pro was the anatomical shape and I do not like them. Evans were the only shop to have any bars that were 42mm wide.

EBC had 2 x 44cm bars, the rest were compact bars (all of about 4 sets)
Harry Halls had...wait for it..... 2 sets of bars in stock...all wrong size..2 sets talk about no stock.
Evans had 1 Pro (wrong shape) 2 WCS and a few others.

No wonder we get kit off the web.

Oh dear Fossy, hope the Mrs isn't too hard on you. Poor taxi though, did you buy it some flowers to make up for the pounding it got from your head?
