At least it's better than the time when my mother stayed with one of her school friends who contracted polio as a child, which left her in a wheelchair with nothing more than limited mobility with her arms. Mary's parents had gone away, so Mother Dearest was in charge.

Mary rang the bell she had in her bedroom in the night as she needed the loo. Mum took her, then made the mistake of going back to bed to keep warm as it was a rather chilly night.

The following morning, she woke to the faint and rather desperate sound of Mary's voice from the bathroom where she had been stuck all night, unable to get to her wheelchair.

Never again was Mum left in sole charge.

All mine would howl with indignity if we left them on the step for more than 5 mins, different matter if you want them in & they're busy snuffling round the garden.

It's also strange how if it's pouring down & pitch black at the back door they don't want to go out yet if you go to the front door the weather has miraculously changed and is bright sunshine and they're bouncing to go out.

I can go one better than that .My mate and his wife normally worked the same shift ,but one week no swapping of shifts. So one on early one on lates. He lets her out of the garage she locks up and goes off to work ,while 14-30 .He is now trapped inside the garage in his jim jams .As the connecting door had closed itself. He just had to sit in there from 05-30 till she got home around 15-00 .Priceless .
