OU courses

I like the science short courses - just finishing my 5th at the minute. The course materials are usually good quality and there's plenty of support if you need it.

I also like that they have four different start dates so you're not forced to study during the summer like you do with the longer ones.

Are you going to do one more and then apply for the certificate then? Do you study them one at a time is two at a time do-able?

The OU vouchers can only be used against level one courses.

Just as well the science modules I've seen are level 1 then! It's about the only "financial support" I'll be getting . Apparently as I've done a degree already I'm not eligable for any support despite meeting the criteria of earning below £30K.

At the moment I'm doing a PhD part-time (on Communication Technologies in Fiction) so I have access to my university's modules in other subjects and prefer to go that route because I'm not great at distance learning, but when I've finished I would maybe give it a go.

Got my degree through the OU, few years back now. 60 points a year. I couldn't do it again though, I've got too used to relaxing when I get in. I've just started M248 Analyzing data, a 30 pointer. Maybe I'll do some more, sticking to 30 points at a time.

As an employee of the OU I get the courses free and I always wanted to do a music degree. That was my intention when I joined but the b*stards have given me so much flippin' work to do I don't have the time! And then there's my cycling habit on top of it all....

We must have the highest proportion of MBA qualified administrators - they've all gone and got their OU qualifications gratis!!

You've already got a degree? It could be even worse than that. John Denham pushed through legislation which forces people to pay higher fees who have an 'equal or lower qualification' to the one they're aiming to study toward.

There was talk this would be as high as international fees, which are 3x the cost of home fees on average.

It's also the case that universities do not get funding contributions from government for ELQ students. As many of our students are ELQ we have lost millions because of this legislation.

Yep it was Labour but I think you'd struggle to find any Tories who would be against charging extra for ELQ students. I mean they want to increase fees across the board anyway.

Ah yes sorry. Nope it's not applicable to Wales or Scotland.

I would happily go for either Astronomy and Planetary Science or Physics. Engineering would be good too.

I'd not heard of these short courses, which is a bit sad since I did my degree with the OU!!
Might well look into a few.
