Sometimes it's considerably less speed, like on the very hilly Ashdown ride last weekend.

...but uber fast on a relatively long and flat commute like mine. Yes, lots of funny looks and comments, but it's not scary. On the contrary, it's more scary on an upright because drivers don't see you and don't give you the same amount of room as you get on a recumbent.

LOL! Anerley Hill and Biggin Hill aren't, but the rest of it is. And the whole thing is pancake flat compared with the Hell of the Ashdown route.
