Nice overnight trip down to Padstow on the North Cornish coast this week. Bit of a trial run of my newly rebuilt/put together touring rig as opposed to my usual more bikepacking style set up! Bought a Ridgeback Expedition from a friend who had only ridden it a couple of times before deciding cycling wasn't for him. Stripped it back to a frame and then rebuilt it to my spec/taste with some parts I had lying around from various projects.
Headed out around teatime on Thursday from home in South East Cornwall across to the TV mast at Caradon Hill on the edge of Bodmin Moor, were I found a good bivvy spot. Woke early on Friday without a real plan so just headed West along the bottom edge of the moor to Bodmin , were I was able to pick up the Camel Trail and follow it through some incredible scenery to Padstow. Didn't stop long there due to the brave old Northerly wind blowing in, before heading back along the trail to Bodmin were I was able to pick up on the part that heads to the old clay drys at Wendford Bridge. Fantastic lunch at the popular Snails Pace cafe before a foolhardy fast run back home along parts of the A38 as I needed to be back before the kids came home from school!
A very successful test which proved the gear well and now planning a loop around Cornwall with it later this year.
