Cracking a solo.
If i see another cyclist on my commute i will always try and either overtake them or at least catch them! happened this morning, guy had about 400-500 yrds on me through my uphill bit caught him just before a downhill to a roundabout, was fun!!
That sounds rather eerily familiar!! You sure you're in Bristol?
I honestly don't know if he sucked my wheel at all, I don't think so, I certainly didn't hang on to his when he was in front he was riding in the gutter for a start and I stayed about 6-8ft behind him.
I think Arf may have summed it up above, I have a sneaking suspicion he was a relative newbie, bike looked spanking, gear could only have been a few weeks old, either way lets hope he keeps it up

Like father like son.

Oops! I walked right into that one.

As an older, larger, recumbent rider I get overtaken on hills fairly often. As I'm way faster down hill I often pass the overtaker at some speed within a few minutes of them passing me. If there's another up hill stretch ahead I usually say, 'see you later' as I go by them.

I was enjoying a bimble the other week when I was passed so quickly by a peleton of ATG riders I thought I'd stopped:rolleyes:
No point in me trying to engage. No problem,it's :becool:

However,it wasn't best pleased with the overtake of coatofpaint close...simply no need on a very wide quiet road (ex Stoke 2 Derby main road beyond Doveridge).Nor was I impressed with an undertake manouvre on a roundabout.
Several of these riders were wearing the club kit of a well known high profile Derby club, the reputation of which is higher than the road manners of some of it's members.

The chasing bunch had no problem overtaking at a sensible clearance,& some even exchanged pleasant salutations ;IME the normal interaction of this club's riders.

So,the opposed extremes of etiquette in one experience illustrate the fundamental issue:Human Nature=Crap Design
ymmv

On the one and...so far...only club ride I have met with, I was really surprised at how rude the club was towards others. The odd thing is they were all such a pleasant lot from mixed social backgrounds, ages and gender.

I found myself making overstated efforts to thank patient drivers and considerate passes. The next time I have the fitness to meet them I shall bring the topic up over a slice of half time cake.
